Joseph N. Zemis, M.D., is a Board Certified general surgeon with over 16 years of surgical experience. Dr. Zemis is a member of the active medical staff at both Union Hospital and Mercy Medical Center. He was recently appointed as the first Medical Director of the Wound Healing Center at Union Hospital, which opened in 2005 to offer the community state-of-the-art specialized wound healing care.

A Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation and a Registered Vascular Technologist, Dr. Zemis is a partner in Regional Surgical Specialists and Regional Vascular and Vein Institute which specializes in the use of advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery to treat vascular diseases. Dr. Zemis has expertise in the surgical treatment of diseases and specializes in surgery to the head, neck, thorax, endocrine glands (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, pancreas), abdomen (liver, spleen, gallbladder, intestines), skin, soft tissues, breast and endoscopy.

A native of Massachusetts, Dr. Zemis received his Medical Degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He completed his internship and residency program in general surgery at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, while stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. A Major in the Air Force, Dr. Zemis served on active duty from 1990 to 1999 as a surgeon.

A resident of New Philadelphia, Dr. Zemis and his wife Kristin have five children. He is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dover, Ohio.
